A Great Blue Heron stands quietly in the winter landscape of the Patapsco, illuminated by the morning sun. 

Patapsco Wintering grew from my observation of a female Great Blue Heron hunting one winter morning in the Patapsco.  She was glowing in the morning light. My presence seemed to have no affect on her as she carefully watched the water.

The painting reflects that particular quiet of a Chesapeake winter: subdued, watchful, and alive.
