Legacy Commissions

Some places and encounters stay with us.

A heron seen on a walk with someone you love. A family shoreline visited year after year. The fox that appeared each winter. A beloved animal who became part of the landscape of your life.

These are more than subjects. They hold a memory of a particular place, season or relationship.

A Legacy Commission is an original watercolor-and-ink painting created around one of those stories—something worth remembering and living with for years to come.

Great Blue Heron watercolor and ink painting in the Patapsco River by Amanda Glover

Your story, interpreted through my work

I am a Maryland nature illustrator whose work explores the wildlife, landscapes and quiet magic of the Chesapeake watershed.

Using your story and reference photographs, I create an original painting in my established line-and-wash style. The finished work is not an exact reproduction of a photograph. My aim is to capture not only what a place or animal looked like, but why it mattered.

Legacy Commissions are especially suited to:

  • A meaningful encounter with a wild animal
  • A beloved Chesapeake or Mid-Atlantic landscape
  • A family property, garden, shoreline or walking place
  • A bird or animal connected to someone you love
  • A pet remembered within a natural setting
  • A season or place that has become part of your family’s story

Created to honor a beloved companion -this work holds pride of place in the owners home.

Sizes and investment

12 × 12 inches — starting at $500

Best suited to a single animal, plant or concise wildlife encounter.

18 × 18 inches — starting at $800

Allows room for a more developed habitat, atmosphere or paired subject.

24 × 24 inches — starting at $1,400

A substantial collector piece suited to a layered landscape or narrative.

36 × 36 inches — starting at $3,200

A 50% non-refundable deposit reserves your place on my studio calendar. The remaining balance is due when the painting is completed.

How it works

1. Share your story

Tell me about the animal, place or memory you would like the painting to hold. You may include reference photographs and any details that feel especially important.

2. Confirm the commission

I will review your inquiry and let you know whether the project is a good fit for my work and schedule. We will confirm the size, price and anticipated completion window before you place your deposit.

3. Develop the composition

I will create a pencil concept for your review. One round of revisions is included at this stage. Once the composition is approved, I begin the finished painting.

4. Complete your painting

Most Legacy Commissions require approximately 12–16 weeks. When your painting is finished, I will arrange the final payment and local delivery, pickup or insured shipping.

Current availability

I am currently opening two Legacy Commission places for completion by December 10, 2026.

Because each painting is developed slowly and individually, availability is intentionally limited. When these places are filled, you may request to join the waiting list for the next commission window.

Share your story

Tell me about the animal, place or memory you would like your painting to hold. Please include your preferred size, desired completion date and anything that makes the subject especially meaningful to you.

Submitting an inquiry does not obligate you to commission a painting or reserve a place on my calendar. I will review your story and respond within three business days.
